These gentle creatures
have enriched the Hytinen family with love and companionship since 1983.
"Bear"
(how original) came into the family via owners who originally purchased
him from a Minnesota
"back yard" breeder.
They were afraid of his size (what were they expecting, a yorkie?). At
the tender
age of 7 months,
they wanted to place him elsewhere. Fifty dollars and a fond farewell (don't
let the door
hit you on your
way out) Bear came to live at "Finn Farm".
After being on
a chain for most of his young life, Bear was indeed hard to handle. With
love and patience,
he became a beloved
part of the family. Twenty two years later, friends and family still speak
of him fondly.
It's as if, one
sharp whistle will bring him running from around the corner.
Looking back,
we were extremely lucky. Bear did not appear to have any health or heredity
issues
(nor was he ever
checked for any). He lived a good many years, happy and content before
taking
his place at
the "rainbow bridge". He waits for us there now, and is never very far
from our thoughts.
Eleven years passed
between losing Bear and meeting our dear friend and mentor
Donna Overman.
She was the driving force for over thirty years behind the much acclaimed
Moonfleet Kennel
out of Sault Saint Marie Canada.
We waited on her
list, oh the dreaded "list"! It seemed like forever (six months). Then,
after
being thoroughly
interrogated, oops I mean "interviewed", she entrusted us with "Alice".
Our lives as we knew them, were forever changed.....
We now have ten
Newfs in the HOUSE, running the whole show. As well as it should be.
We have been
inspired by Donna Overman to run our breeding program with the love, patience,
and strict adherence
to sound minds and bodies, this wonderful breed deserves.
We will forever
be grateful to Donna, Jessica, people like Kim Doan, and Candy Webb for
not only being
wonderful friends,
but also for sharing their vast knowledge and experience with us without
reservation.
